I'm a kind of jack of all trades. I was an ESL teacher (who learned Mandarin) with 20 years experience. I did classical music composition at uni, later figured out animation, recording and music production, then recently studied app development. After creating Chinese Buddy songs—which sought to make Chinese fun and engaging—Chinese characters always bugged me. It seemed like an impenetrable aspect of Mandarin. Through other gamified apps I used in the past, I started to think of a tool for Mandarin teachers that would supercharge their classrooms and further engage learners.
